Children's Acupuncture Clinic

Children are a joy to have in clinic. They are usually direct about what works for them and what doesn't. So with their parent or guardian present throughout it is easy to build a working partnership with them. The same amount of time is put aside for a child's session as an adult session to allow children the time to feel comfortable, often the session is actually much shorter. In an adult session if the very fine acupuncture needles are used, they are left in for approximately 20 minutes in most cases, where as with children the needles are in for a much shorter time or acupressure (or occasionally magnets in older children) are used. In babies if needles are used then the very fine needles are almost immediately removed again. By the age 7 the very fine needles are left in for around 10 minutes. However acupressure, acu-magnets and massage are all therapeutic options where needles are not used at all. Acu-magnets are small magnets that are used instead of acupuncture needles. They are only suitable for older children as they must not be swallowed. Acupressure is when a small amount of pressure is applied to specific acupuncture points and is very effective on children so is also a suitable option. All options are discussed during sessions.

Children are usually quicker to heal than an adult with a similar condition and therefore usually need fewer sessions to return to their road to health.

Often with young children they bring their favourite soft toy who can have acupuncture too, if they don't want their toy to have acupuncture then we have Cuddles who is always looking forward to having an acupuncture or massage session.

Children have a special child rate. They must come with their parent or legal guardian who must be present for the duration of the child's session.

Parents or legal guardians may choose to schedule an appointment and can receive acupuncture in a back to back appointment with their child.
